Wildlife Event at Mt. Mansfield High School

See hundreds of exhibits covering every species of North American carnivore. The event will include a spectacular slide show of award-winning wildlife photography narrated by local conservation biologist, forester, author and photographer Sue Morse. Sue is also the founder of the nationwide wildlife monitoring non-profit Keeping Track, and anyone interested in signing up for a local wildlife monitoring team can do so at the event. Sponsors include the Richmond Land Trust, Jericho and Bolton conservation commissions, the Duxbury Land Trust, and the Vermont Youth Conservation Corps. Suggested donation: $5 adults/$10 families. Filled bags must be left along town roadsides and will be picked up by town crews until NOON on Saturday (05/03/08).

Lee Diamond, a local Master Gardener, will show how to identify the invaders that could well be in your garden and yard, affecting the soil and pushing out the native species that our birds and other wildlife depend on for food.

05-08-08 - Vermont Youth Conservation Corps Event - 6:00 p.m.
The Vermont Youth Conservation Corps invites the community to a community forum at the West Monitor Barn on May 8th from 6-8:30 pm to discuss the future uses of the recently purchased Vermont Farm Bureau property adjacent to VYCC headquarters on East Main St. The property is home to the East Monitor Barn. Refreshments will be served and tours of the East Monitor Barn property will be conducted between 6-6:45 pm. All are welcome. RSVP appreciated.

Take a walk along the Winooski River in Richmond to identify spots with invasive plants for future control program. Take part in a walk along the Winooski to locate places that are becoming overrun with non-native plants and help plan efforts to eliminate them.
