November 9, 2011 Update
The bridge painting project remains behind schedule and there is no significant changes from the last update. The Selectboard has requested a representative from VTrans to appear at the November 21st meeting to explain what has happened and the future of the project.
October 25, 2011 Update
The bridge painting project is behind schedule. The original completion date was October 28th, however, that deadline will not be met. Work continues on the job but we are unsure of a new completion date. It is likely that the work will shut down for the Winter, and restart in the Spring. If that happens, all equipment will be removed from the Bridge for the duration of the shutdown, and the bridge will remain partially complete.
Naturally, this is not the result we expected. Work will continue until December 1st, when the State forbids any further work due to the Winter season.
September 9, 2011 Update
The painting contractor has begun to set up their equipment on the Bridge. Soon the temporary traffic signals will be installed and then the containment apparatus will go up, and one lane of the Bridge will be closed. At that time the pedestrian walkway will also be closed for the duration of the contract. Please be aware that morning traffic will be affected the most, so if you have an alternative route to work in the mornings we suggest that avoiding the Bridge will likely save you time during the project. Also, speed limits on East Hill Road and Kenyon Road have been temporarily reduced to 25mph due to the anticipated increase in traffic while the project is in action.
August 18, 2011 Update
The State of Vermont has hired Phoenix Development of Corfu, New York to paint the Bridge Street Bridge. Work is expected to begin the last week of August and continue until October 28th. In October of 2010 the Richmond Selectboard chose red to be the new color of the bridge. With the beginning of work, the bridge will be closed one late at a time, with a traffic light regulating traffic across the open lane. Expect travel delays during the work period from now until the project is complete.
